A Ceremony of Carols
Join ChoirWorks, under the direction of Dr. Debra Shearer-Dirié, for an enchanting afternoon of English choral music, accompanied by harp and pipe organ, at the heritage-listed chapel of St Peters Lutheran College, Indooroopilly.
The program features two ever-popular works written to celebrate Christmas:
A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten and
Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Britten’s radiant carol sequence, with its mystical harp accompaniment and haunting harmonies, captures the wonder and mystery of the holiday season. Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia brings a rustic charm, weaving beloved carol melodies into a lush tapestry of sound.
The concert also includes other shorter works by composers old and new, including John Rutter, Philip Stopford, Cecilia McDowall, Judith Weir, Alan Bullard and Will Todd. There’s also a humorous version of The Twelve Days of Christmas arranged by Andrew Carter.
This festive program promises warmth, beauty, and a touch of magic, perfect for celebrating the season in song.
Refreshments will follow the concert.
