Thirty Year Anniversary

How we got our name

ChoirWorks traces its foundation in 1996 to an outreach initiative of St Andrew’s Uniting Church in the centre of Brisbane. The choir was designed, and remains today, as an auditioned community choir, open to anyone from the wider community who meets the audition requirements. The church generously provided rehearsal and performance spaces, and the choir was run by an independent committee elected from the choir membership.

The initial name chosen for the choir was St Andrew’s Concert Choir. However in the first year it was recognised that this name caused most people to assume that we were the St Andrew’s Sanctuary Choir who sang at church services every Sunday. As a result the name was changed to Brisbane Concert Choir at St Andrew’s, frequently abbreviated to Brisbane Concert Choir.

For many years we persisted with this name, although it still caused problems with marketing and name recognition. In 2023 we finally changed to become ChoirWorks.

Celebrations

Current and former members of ChoirWorks and Brisbane Concert Choir will mark the 30th anniversary with a celebratory luncheon at Naldham House in Brisbane on July 18 2026. If you wish more detail on this please email contact@choirworks.au
